In June 2009, the Society lost its President, John Wilkinson (affectionately known as Jock).
He became Honorary President in 1996, having already held other official positions for the Society which he first joined in 1966. He came to a rehearsal one evening and ended up staying with the Society for forty two years.
Jock was Patronage Secretary from 1967-1991and also Treasurer from 1986-88. During much of this period he was also Headmaster of Brunswick First and Middle Schools.
Jock’s other passion was the Sheffield Schoolboys' football teams, by whom he was held in high regard. He worked strenuously to further schoolboy football at both county and national level.
When in 1991, Sheffield Teachers' returned to the newly refurbished Lyceum Theatre, Jock's presence in the foyer each evening, as House Manager, greeting our audiences in his welcoming and cheerful manner, was a familiar sight.
The Society will miss his hard work and dedication. It has set up a bursary in his name, details of which can be found on the download section.
