The Society

These photos were taken during rehearsals for some of our latest shows. We try and make sure all new members are welcome, and although we work hard, rehearsals are fun. For more details about becoming a member, download our welcome sheets. Prefer to speak to someone? Then use the contact form, and we'll get in touch.

"Proper Loved Doing West Side Story ! Was an amazing week and I've met some friends for life! You guys are a great Society and it has been a pleasure to work with such lovely people! Missing it so much already! Just a quick thanks to everyone for making it the week it was and i think I'd be right in speaking on behalf of the Rotherham/RTSA lot for welcoming us from the first minute ! ..Can't wait to find out and do the next one with everyone ! Well Done Everyone.. Was Amazing!"

"Just wanted to tell everyone that I've had one of the best weeks ever doing this show, well done to every single person involved, and hopefully see you all next year"

Rare photos of the backstage team (who are normally quite shy!) during a break of STOS' production of Oliver!

As well as actors, we need help with backstage and front of house. For more details about becoming a non-acting member, download our welcome sheets. Prefer to speak to someone? Then use the contact form, and we'll get in touch.

STOS tribute to Gill Hope

One of STOS' long standing members - Gill Hope - died this week.

Gill joined STOS in 1974 for 'Orpheus', and became a committee member in 1981 for 'White Horse Inn'  and in 1985 - 1989 she shared the Publicity role with Wendy Shaw taking over that post in her own capacity in 1989 until 1997.

In 1997 She took over the Wardrobe Mistress post from Sue Holliday, and continued to assist in that role until this month.

During the 80's and 90's Gill also was involved in backstage scenery painting, designing etc., and appeared on stage regularly. Her latest roles were in The Baker's Wife, She Loves Me and the special concert for the reopening of the Crucible Theatre.

STOS tribute to John Wilkinson

In June 2009, the Society lost its President, John Wilkinson (affectionately known as Jock).

He became Honorary President in 1996, having already held other official positions for the Society which he first joined in 1966. He came to a rehearsal one evening and ended up staying with the Society for forty two years.
