Introduction

STOS has an enviable reputation for producing top class musical theatre year on year, and West Side Story was no exception.

This brings with it the annual question … “How on earth do we top that?” and I think I am right in saying that the choice of next year’s show is always the most difficult one that your committee has to make.

Director's Update

Hi All,

I'm really delighted to have been invited to direct for STOS next year. Menken's A Christmas Carol is going to be a cracker (if you'll excuse the pun!!)!

The US TV movie version , starring Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), is available on DVD but is the biggest pile of pants possible - very American, schmaltzy, joyless, souless, not scarey etc etc. …

Musical Director Update

STOS is happy to announce that our musical director for Menken's A Christmas Carol will be Andy Collis. Andy has previously worked with us on Witches of Eastwick, The Baker's Wife & She Loves Me and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with us again this year.

February 2012 Update

How will the STOS production be different?

We will take the score and book of the show but reset many of the scenes in a magical but stripped back production, using every theatrical trick in the book to return the show to its ghost story origins.

Ours will be a truly ensemble show, with almost the entire cast (40+ performers) playing a multiple roles throughout the show. …

January 2012 Update

There are lots of versions of Dickens' story. Who wrote this one?

With music by multi Oscar winning composer, Alan Menken (Disney's Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, Little Mermaid and Tony Award winning stage shows Little Shop of Horrors and Sister Act), lyrics by Tony Award winner Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Anastasia) and originally conceived by Mike Ockrent (Me & My Girl, Crazy For You) this version will send shivers up your spine and make your feet tap in equal measure.
