Rags to Riches

On behalf of the Ladies Committee, please could you support them by filling a 'green bag' for "Rags to Riches" with any clothing, bedding, shoes, handbags, curtains, soft toys, belts, that you do not now need.   The company take the bags and weigh them and last year we were sent £80 for our funds, which helps to subsidise the annual Dinner and Dance.

The bags will be available at the rehearsal on 5th September, and Janet Sanders will happily take your full bags on that evening, and also 12th and 19th September.

If you were going to have a clear out, please would you support the Ladies and fill one of the green bags with any unwanted items.

Thank You

Dear Member,

The Executive Committee of STOS wish to inform you that they have called a Special General Meeting on Friday September 12th at 8.00 p.m., at Wesley Hall, to formally elect a new Honorary President. The rehearsal will continue at 8.15 p.m.

At the Executive Committee meeting during July the committee members discussed the vacancy that has arisen, due to the sad loss of our President Jock Wilkinson. After discussion it was proposed by Judy McMurray, seconded by Janet Sanders and passed unanimously, that Pat Hobson be asked to become the Society’s Honorary President.

At the August Executive Committee meeting it was proposed by David Streeter and seconded by Pete Brown and passed unanimously, that in accordance with rules 8.2 and 8.3 a Special General Meeting be called to enable the Society Membership to formally vote on the resolution.

Special General Meeting: Agenda

Personal statement from the Executive Committee to support the election of Pat Hobson as Honorary President

Pat Hobson has been associated with the Society since the early 1960’s, taking both principal roles and also singing in the chorus. To celebrate our 100 years she wrote the book  ‘The First Hundred Years A History of Sheffield Teachers’ Operatic Society’ and helped to organise our centenary celebrations. Pat has now retired from the stage, and is the Society Archivist. Her knowledge of Sheffield Teachers’ Operatic Society is immense and she is respected in local operatic circles.   The Executive Committee seeks your support.

Yours sincerely,

Judy McMurray
